Our 96 Golf has been dripping oil for a while, and it was difficult to tell where it was coming from.
The usual places (around the valve cover, and around the oil cooler) were fine. The other day the leak
got much, much worse and it was then easy to see where it was coming from. Turns out, we had one of those
oil pressure sender leaks. I've heard of this a few times now - the oil actually leaks through
the oil pressure sender that's mounted on the cylinder head. The oil was leaking all the way through
it, right out around the spade terminal for the wire that connects to it. It was so bad that I could
blow air right through it. I went down to
Atlantic Imported Auto Supply yesterday and picked up a new pressure sender, and now all is well.
